(THANK YOU) Parent Teacher Conference Success!
THANK YOU to all of our wonderful families for participating in Parent Teacher Conferences this week!
This year, we were able to meet with over 400 of our parents in-person!
It is extremely valuable for parents and teachers to have that time to discuss their child(ren), so THANK YOU to everyone for your continued support of WES!
(Reminder) Fall Break is Here!
Just a reminder, there will be no school tomorrow or Monday for Fall Break: The WES Office will be closed, as well.
We hope everyone enjoys their time with their kids, and we will see everyone back on Tuesday!
(NEW) Report Cards Available This Tuesday!
With the first nine weeks in the books, that means Report Cards will be here soon!
On Tuesday, October 18th, Report Cards will be distributed to our students, so be on the lookout!
(NEW) The Great Shake Out is Coming!
On Thursday, October 20th, students at WES and NL will participate with students across the country in the Great Shake Out!
Students will be given the proper instructions on what to do in the event of an earthquake: Stop, Drop, and Hold On!

(NEW) Frozen Friday Goodness!
I see many families in the morning giving their son or daughter their dollar for the day, and I wanted to first say THANK YOU for supporting WES in this way. I also wanted to help bring to light all of the AMAZING initiatives that Frozen Friday has done for our students, staff, and community:
Money From Frozen Friday Has...
- Helped Families That Have Experienced a Sudden Loss in the Family
- Provided Academic Digital Programs for Our WES Students, Specifically Xtra Math
- Donated to Our Schoolwide Fundraiser Initiatives, Specifically Donations to Beacon Children's Hospital, Riley's Children Hospital, and South Bend Pediatric Oncology
- Provided Supplemental Funding for New Basketball and Cheerleading Uniforms
- Adopted Families During the Holiday Season in December (WES Adopt a Family Program)
- Made Sizable Donations to the Walkerton Food Pantry
- Provided Meals for Teachers and Staff During Parent Teacher Conferences and Provided Snacks for Students During ILEARN and IREAD-3 Testing
- And so much more!
THANK YOU again, not just for helping our students and staff at WES, but for helping the families and community we serve as well. Please know that those $1's you give to your child each week are going to help our students, staff, and community :)
The Science of Reading!
(Reminder) Leaves are Falling, and It is Getting Cold!
Fall came full force this week, as we saw the temperature drop to 39 degrees at 7:45 in the morning!
As the weather begins to change, please remind your children that their clothes need to change as well. Coats, shoes, hats, gloves, etc. may be needed sooner rather than later.
If you need assistance in providing any type of clothing, please email Dr. Fuller at pfuller@jgsc.k12.in.us
Similarly, as the rain (and God forbid snow) begins to fall, please remember to keep it slow in the parking lot, both in the morning and afternoon. We have a lot of very excited kids eager to both come to school and go home from school, and we want to make sure we are keeping them as safe as possible.

Dr. Fuller's Thoughts!
"This is good because..."
Whenever something wonderful happens, we can easily think about 'the good' in that situation.
Whether you get a promotion at work, someone buys your coffee in line at Dunkin', or you find that missing $20 in your pants pocket, it's easy to see the good when it's something positive...
...it becomes slightly more difficult to see the good during those tougher times.
"This is good because..."
It does require work to train your brain to see the positive in all situations.
Whenever anything excellent, mediocre, lame, exciting, or 'unfair' happens, I pause for a moment and repeat the phrase...
"This is good because..."
Finding the good and the lessons in difficult situations allows us to positively move forward and to appreciate the lessons they provide.
If you want to conquer and ultimately OWN difficult situations, be grateful, and look for the good in every situation.
Remember, we learn so much more from our failures, than we do all of our successes.
Happy Fall Break, everyone!
