UMS Honor BandThis past Saturday several students - Riley Gean, Ivan Alvarez, Eric Blankenmeyer & Connor Fort - from the Urey Middle School 8th grade Concert Band were members of the Indiana Bandmaster Association All Region Honor Band held at La Salle Academy in South Bend. These students rehearsed throughout the day on Saturday ( November 14) and performed the concert on Sunday ( November 15).
There were 103 members that comprised the ensemble. These students were from our entire northern region. They also had the distinct honor of performing the world premier of a commissioned piece especially written for these IBA All Region Honor Band participants.This piece was the world premier for all the Honor Band ensembles throughout the state. Congratulations again to 8th grade students - Riley Gean, Ivan Alvarez, Eric Blankenmeyer & Connor Fort. We collected 435 toys for Santa's workshop this year! We exceeded our goal of 250!! Thanks to students, staff, & parents!
Tri Kappa Art Show Congrats to the winners of the Tri Kappa Art show! 7th grade winners for drawing were 1st Alex Flaharty, 2nd Abbie Cleveland, and 3rd Jordan Keeley. Winners for Watercolor Painting were 1st Abigayle Dunlap, 2nd Gerardo Coria, and 3rd Maya Vermillion. 8th grade Painting winners were 1st Jenna LaRose, 2nd Jacob Reynolds, and 3rd Jorgia Ayers. Sculpture winners were 1st Trinity Hess, 2nd Ariel Tysver, and 3rd Cora Kickbush. Computer generated art winners were 1st Brennan Boley, 2nd Cheyenne Humphrey, and 3rd Conner Frasier. Student Council DonatesThe UMS student council created this beautiful wreath. They donated it to Millers Merry Manor for their annual wreath fundraiser.
Cyber Safety ConvocationEric Tamashecky from the Cyber Crimes unit of the St. Joe County Sheriff's Department spoke to UMS students about making good decisions with respect to online safety. Adults and students alike learned some great tips to help us stay safe!
Symphony Day!8th grade students enjoyed a nice lunch and music from the members of the South Bend Symphony String Quintet. It was a wonderful morning!
