JGHS spellers excelled again! On Saturday, November 10th, the John Glenn Spell Bowl team dominated their competition to win their 17th State Spell Bowl title in the last 26 years. The JGHS spellers captured the Div. 2 Spell Bowl State Championship with a score of 86/90 words spelled correctly on at Purdue University. This was the team’s fourth time competing in Div. 2, a larger school enrollment division, winning all four years in that division, and the fifth year in a row to win state.
Earning perfect scores of 9/9 at state were seniors J.J. Silvey ( a four year speller and champion), Ann Heckman-Davis, Chris Mahank; junior Erin Patterson; sophomores Holly Rowe and Maddy Piedra; and freshman Jennifer Almaguer. Near perfect ribbon winners with 8/9 were juniors Jahna Almaguer and Cole Jacobson, and freshman Riley Patterson. Alternates on the team were Sage Bladow, Ciara Kerckhove, Rachel Kunnen, Jordan Maure, Rebecca Shoue, Justina Weiss, Jacob Kickbush, Bryanna Lockhart, and Amanda Bowen.

Saturday Jan 26 JGHS Vocal Students competed in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest. We had 23 entrees. Vocalists brought home 20 gold and 3 silver medals, with 5 ensembles and 4 soloists qualifying for state competition in February!
Congratulations to the 2013 Bowling Sectional winner, Matthew Klingerman. Matt and Will Merkes will advance to Regionals in Michigan City this coming weekend!
