Hello JG Family,
I want to take a moment and update everyone regarding our efforts at John Glenn to maintain normalcy for our students, while also taking the appropriate steps to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being during this Covid-19 situation.
I continue to personally communicate with the Health Department and oversee this situation with the teamwork of our administration, directors, and teacher leaders. We have progressively increased our sanitation efforts, as well as worked to increase our nursing staff.
I think it is important to note that students and staff can become ill throughout any school year. At this time, we have not had any illnesses that would be considered out of the ordinary. The St. Joseph County Health Department continues to advise us that school should be in session. We will continue with this recommendation unless the Governor’s Office, IDOE, or other local health authorities recommend John Glenn to close.
With all this said, there has been additional recommendation from the CDC and Governor Holcomb’s office to restrict all “non-essential gatherings…to no more than 250 people." Based on this guidance, John Glenn will postpone or cancel the following events:
3/13…WES, Medieval Times Field Trip…Postponed
3/13-3/15…JGHS, Spring Musical…Postponed
3/14…NLES/WES, Basketball Tournament…Canceled
3/17…UMS, National Honors Society Inductions…Postponed
3/19…WES, Spring Concert…Postponed
3/19…JGHS, Winter Sports Awards…Postponed
Please be prepared for further schedule adjustments. I anticipate additional directions from our state and local agencies. As always please use your best judgment for your own students and family. If you feel the need to keep your child home, their absences will be excused.
In the event that we need to close school, we will begin with eLearning days, followed by an assessment of how to best serve students based on the anticipated length of our closure.
Thank you for your continued support and confidence in our leadership as we navigate this very unique situation.
Yours in Education,
